The Tratado da Ciência Cabala, written by Francisco manuel de Melo (1608-1666) in an indefinite date and not published till 1724, is an exceptional work. It is the only one preserving a Hebraic science which had been erased from the Peninsula because of religious intolerance. With a great and justified caution, Melo studies those aspects of the Kabbala that present lesser problems from the religious point of view, namely linguistics and symbolism, using a clear language of a great propedeutic value.
