The author presents in this article some new evidence about Juan Ramírez de Lucena's biography, and he tries to place his figure in the political and social context of Castile at the end of the 15th century: first, he gives an account of Lucena's family origins with particular attention to the economic activity and the political position of his father, a well known converso landlord in Soria; next, the author analyses some aspects of Lucena's biography, and shows some evidence about his role as a political collaborator of the Catholic Kings; and finally, he reports Lucena 's confrontation with the Inquisition and the subsequent effects u pon him and his family. The author also publishes some news about the last years of Lucena's life and about his relatives in the 16th century.
