Abstract

’Eḇen boḥan ( 1322) by Kalonymos ben Kalonymos, which was written in the maqama tradition, constitutes a turning point in the development of narrative forms since the Middle Ages. Rather than being a sub-text enclosed within its own signifying practice, ’Eḇen boḥan incorporates the discursif shifts that took place with the coming of age of neo-classical discourse. The subject of enunciation seems to be no more a mediator within the divine plan but rather the owner of bis own speech.
