The term jurūŷ is used as a poetical technical term in various literary traditions and in different periods. In classical Arabic poetry, it is a substantial part of the qaṣīda since the earliest days of literary activity. In al-Andalus, the poets developed new strophical poems muwaššaḥ, and zaŷal, in which they adopted and adapted the accumulation of themes to these new forms. The term jarŷa, which is used for the closing lines of the muwallaf, is derived from the same root and the function of the jarŷa is analogous to the jurūŷ. In Hispano-Hebrew sacred poetry exists a type of poem, which is also called jurūŷ. In this article, it is described the function of this particular poem within a sequence of liturgical compositions with the aim to compare the Hispano-Hebrew jurūŷ to the Hispano-Arabic models
