Abstract

Ms. Or. Gaster 10688 is a Spanish translation in Hebrew script of Judah Abarbanel or Leone Ebreo's Dialoghi d'amore kept in the British Library in London. By putting it in context with the other extant sixteenth-century translations of the work and the Italian manuscript tradition, the author suggests that ms. Or. Gaster 10688 is a translation from an Italian edition, thus disagreeing with the opinion that it is an original work. Indeed, the text corresponds with the first printed Spanish version published in Venice in 1568. The author also puts the manuscript in context with the literary production of the Sephardic communities in the Levant during the 16th century.
