Some Peculiarities of Judeo-Spanish Pronunciation according to Rhyme: The Case of Yitshak de Botton

Among “adopted genres” in Sephardic literature, secular poetry has not been yet studied in depth –in comparison with theatre or novel, for instance–. This paper focuses on analysing rhyme in two books of poems written by Yitzhak de Botton: Recolio de poeśías diversas (Tel Aviv, 1931) and Cuadreno [sic] de poeśías (Tel Aviv, 1935). The main aim is to proof that rhyme may reveal the way that words were pronounced by the poet, although it implies sometimes divergences from the written texts and, indeed, some mistakes can be found through this analysis.
